Just wondering:
I remember that, back in the days when there was no internet, i was VERY glad when i could lay hands on some demotape from a friend or something. I listened close to all the bits and parts, the techniques, the sounds, the buildup.. over and over again. I'm just curious: Now that we have instant acces to thousands of homemade recordings (which used to be rare then), are there still people who:
- collect these songs on CD or MP3 player and carry them with them to listen close?
- pick songs they really like, to play them over and over again (i.e.: at home or in the car etc.)?
Let me end by saying that I am really enjoying the possibility to listen to so much unreleased songs, and I wonder why the most radio stations have such a small diversity in the music they pick...
Greetings to y'all 8)

isn't 'ipod' the answer to your question? ;)
but there's indeed little FM radio's paying attention to unsigned home recording artists (but there are exceptions). that's off course because they have close bonds with distribution majors hé.

yupz, I allways carry a few songs of myself with me, just in case I run into a situation wre people ask me 'what kind of music do you make'.
And some tracks made by friends arq realy inspirational to me, so I play them while I'm on the road.
Oh, and I know at least two artist (Eatme, Tino) who actively distribute their music on cds.
Not everyone is on the intarwebs, or when they are they do not know where to find music.
Making tapes is still a regular practice in the world of tekno, 'cauze the audience in that scene can't allways afford top of the line mp3-players in their cars.
I think the same goes for the underground hip-hop community, but since I'm not part of that I can only speculate on that.

:) I often listen the internet radio. Sometimes kinkfm. A couple of years I listened on the zaterday's to elementaal on 3 fm. That was drumnbass, garage, hiphop breakbeats and that sort a stuf.
Commercial radio is not ment for the MarinuZz. :D meiondm is right.. The diversity of the music that commercial radio's play is to small. (here and there are exception offcourse).

"The RIAA is now going after mixtapes; specifically, the well-known mixtapes of rap artist DJ Drama. From the article: 'On Tuesday night he was arrested with Don Cannon, a protégé. The police, working with the Recording Industry Association of America, raided his office, at 147 Walker Street in Atlanta.
The association makes no distinction between counterfeit CDs and unlicensed compilations like those that DJ Drama is known for.'
The story goes on to say that many of the artists featured on the mixtapes would never have had the exposure and thus sales they had if DJ Drama had not featured them on a mix. Nowhere is a specific artist mentioned who claims to have been wronged by him.
Additionally, the article states that mixtapes such as those made by DJ Drama are an accepted and integral part of rap music culture. His arrest is confusing on several levels."

The Rap scene is *about* mixtapes etc.. They've been doing it this way for decades.
I cannot understand these kind of sudden actions.
However; i think these kind of actions make me see how important it can be to be ahead of your time. To try new things that haven't been done before.
"they raided his office..." <--- i thought you had to be at least some drugdealer for that? 8o
