Forum : Producing Help : Rm1X
Hi,
Yesterday I got me a Yamaha RM1X.
Before that I used a MAM SQ16 only for my tracks but I missed the gate time and CC's wich are not on the SQ16...
Does anyone here have any starting tips for me while I read the manual and fiddle around with the RM1X. :D
Also I was working on a track on the SQ16 and I want to use the RM1x to finish it.
Is it possible to dump a SysEx to the Rm1x or does it just make a mess of the sequences then?
When I can dump only the patterns and its sequences then I am happy, the song will be changed anyway.
Also I checked the OS and it is ofcourse version 1.12 8o I use the workaround : setting the voice to anything BUT phrase to get rid of the program change that my drumstation recieves and gets to program 00.
Thanks for your time.
Greets,

It's a long time ago for me, but there is a parameter with which you can set the time when to change pattern.
It's in the utility system called 'pattern quantize' set this to one and in last 4 ticks you can switch pattern without getting out of sync:)

Thanks for the tip Bruce I copied it in my tiplist :), it is a handy one for the future......It seems that the learning curve is pretty high for this machine but that also means that it is what I am looking for.

Wel after several hours of reprogramming the track I created on the SQ16 into the RM1X I am in love with this machine.....how I missed GATE time.
The manual is sort of strange and not clear on how to do a thing but it says at least that it can do it.....sort of an adventure :)

have a nice ride :D
rm1x was my first and still the best way to work with
also use your edit window to place certain cc data (from your extern synth or drrums)within your tracks so they can communicate better it solved alot of problems for me specially with the microkorg
sometimes the rm1x doesn't take alll the cc when you record and play everthing together (overdub)
so its best to place the right cc you use or do it step by step(overdub) this works better but is less fun.
set these in the right order for every track and you can kick ass all the times.
good luck and if you dont know post it and i'll try to answer ..

Thanks Psychostorm...it is in the tiplist for later use :)
I am using it now as a step sequencer so I must put in the cc by hand anyway.
I am still figuring out the best way to use the machine I made 1 user pattern with al the basic sounds: drums and synths..the beat is just 4/4 and I made another pattern for when the beat has to be double or do something for a break......problem is(at the moment) that in the other pattern all the mute's are different so it sounds like chaos when I switch from user01 to user02.......but mayby it is better to create the double beat in another section of user01(figured the whole section option after I made the 2 patterns) Anyway it is a very complex machine and I like it alot :)

EDIT : The sections option is very handy for live :))

Sinds the homestudio is in redesign status I turned to headphones and the Rm1X's internal voices.
I find them very nice actually when you put some "variation" into them.
You can distord/compress any track individually like you are working on a mixer with alot of fx and that is nice for hardtechno stuff :)
The reverb is not so great I think but that is not a problem so far.
Maybe I sell all the other synths and only use the rm1x :P

i use one to sequence my melodies live.
to make my midi patterns i use ableton live, then when the whole song is finished, i record the midi signal with the rm1x.
